Ghost Whisperer – S2E17 – The Walk-In
This episode was, well, weird. It wasn’t bad, it was just, different. I can’t say that it was my favorite episode by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a decent ghost of the week story.
So, speaking of the ghost story, that is where the “weird” of the episode came from. There are 2 ghosts, but only 1 body. Essentially, the message of the episode is all about appreciating the life you have and making the most of it. Jason, who was in a wheelchair most of his life, decides that he is going to make use of Bryan’s body since he feels Bryan never used it to the fullest. Jason also wants to let Alyssa know how much she meant to him at their high school reunion. The reunion was actually one of my favorite scenes of the episode, however, I do take issue with the fact that no one at the reunion seemed to notice that Bryan is dead. I mean, seriously. Make up can only do so much. Jason mouthing off to Stephanie’s husband and getting “Bryan” punched in the face was pretty funny though. Also, the relationship between Alyssa and Jason was so sweet and pure. They clearly understood each other better than either one of them realized.
Payne’s commentary when he and Melinda were watching the security video was actually pretty hysterical. Their discussion leads them to the possibility that voodoo is somehow involved with this ghostly case. Voodoo is an interesting concept to introduce into this show, even if it was not really involved with what was happening with Bryan’s body. They have been alluding to several different supernatural concepts this season, and I’m curious to see if any of them will get any further play in the future. Aside from voodoo, they’ve also discussed witchcraft, materialization, and psychometry. It is possible that they want to avoid delving too deep into these themes in order to keep the show as realistic as possible, but yet they keep bringing them in to the stories, so why not use them if you’re going to discuss them.
As I suspected, Jim got some heat for Tim bailing on Delia. However, Delia had told Melinda not to say anything to Jim, so I guess that means Melinda must have ignored this request. Anyway, despite the fact that I still consider Tim to be a class A jerk for standing Delia up, I have to admit that I felt for him a little bit in his attempts to get her to forgive him. She very understandably takes quite awhile to warm back up to his advances, but I feel like the two of them have potential as a couple. Of course, Delia is going to have to let go of Charlie if that is ever going to happen. On a side note, I loved the song playing at the end of the episode when she finally goes out to have coffee with Tim on the square. Jim and Melinda’s scenes in this episode were sweet, but clearly not made to be the focus of the episode.
Overall, this is a pretty average episode. I did not find it that engaging, but the story was okay, and the ghosts were decent. Honestly, the Tim and Delia situation was the most redeeming part of the episode though. I loved seeing Dan Byrd (Cougertown, Easy A) as Jason. This show has some fantastic guest stars. Anyway, with only about 5 episodes left in the season, I’m hoping they start amping up the Romano story here soon. This season has pretty much played out the exact same way as the last, with there not being much build up in the season arc. I have to say, I am kind of disappointed by this fact. I love the show, but they could be doing so much more with that storyline.
Best Moment:
-Jason giving Alyssa the new list and telling her not to give up on her dreams.
Best Quote:
(Watching video of Bryan’s body breaking into a store)
Melinda: The shoplifter is dead.
Payne: Dead, that seems like a harsh punishment. They don’t fool around at this dry cleaners.
