Ghost Whisperer – S2E8 – The Night We Met
I LOVED this episode, mostly for the Melinda and Jim story. Those two just turn me into a total sap. However, I liked the ghost story this episode as well. Generally speaking, this episode is a total redemption from the previous one.
The whole anniversary story was so sweet. I loved getting the backstory of how Jim and Mel met. My only question, as a loyal Jim fan, is how Mel could possibly believe that Jim forgot their anniversary? I mean, this is Jim we are talking about. He’s like the most romantic guy on television, ever. The whole time I knew there was no possible way that he’d forget. If he had, I’d claim character assassination on the part of the writers. I’d be mad. Of course he remembered, and got her the perfect present. I was tearing up right along with Mel. For the love of all that is good will someone please find me a Jim, or at least something close to a Jim. In true dramatic fashion we had to raise the stakes a couple of times with some near emergencies on both sides. I’m not sure if this was to prove something about how much they care about one another, or if it was really just to add some drama. Either way, I guess it worked. It didn’t take me out of the episode any, so no complaints here. Of course for Jim and Mel, the story of the way they met has to include a ghost. It wouldn’t be true to form otherwise. It is interesting how quickly Jim picks up on the fact that Mel must have had some outside knowledge that the couple was inside.
I actually liked the main ghost story this week. It was a fresh story. Love torn apart by tragedy, and then, in a sense, reunited by tragedy. I liked Lily and Warren’s story, and the way that it sort of resonated with Jim and Melinda’s. Warren is successfully able to prove that Jesse set the fires. I have to wonder though why Jesse does not even attempt to say he didn’t. It’s not like anyone but Melinda can see Warren, so there is not necessarily any proof. Guilty conscience? TV plot contrivance? I guess it comes down to one of those things. Speaking of Melinda, why do the ghosts have to be so cruel to her sometimes? Warren basically almost suffocates her through overheating. Come on ghosts! She’s just trying to help. I did notice that Marco Sanchez is Jim’s arson inspector friend. I remember him as Inspector Rodriguez on Charmed.
I was actually pretty impressed with the way they tied all of the story lines together in this episode. They connect the main ghost story with Melinda and Jim’s story of how they met with the ghost story within that story. It’s like Inception. Okay, maybe not quite, but you catch my drift. The only thing I wasn’t entirely sure about was why Professor Payne was walking around downtown Grandview the night of the fire. Is the college supposed to be in Grandview? I was under the impression that it was not, but I guess I’m not sure. Anyway, Payne is now one step closer to figuring out what Melinda’s gift is. I told you he was going to find out about it. Delia on the other hand is pretty much completely in the dark.
Overall, this was an awesome episode. The Jim and Melinda story was great, the ghost story was fresh, the supporting characters actually added something to the episode, and they tied back in the dripping blood and five signs. I’m still waiting for them to connect it back to Romano, but I’ve learned not to hold my breath when it comes to season arcs with this show. Anyway, lets see what the next episode brings shall we?
Best Moment:
