Mistresses – S1E3 – Breaking and Entering
This was another decent episode. Joss gets a new boss, Olivier, who isn’t as impressed by her womanliness as Mac was. He tries to make her job a little harder, but in the end, she proves herself. I have to say, her party idea, and the way she turned the tables on Olivier, was pretty badass. I love the spunk. Aside from this, it also seems like Joss has become a surrogate Savi for April in this episode, as April is still not speaking to Savi. This again emphasizes my belief that Joss is kind of the outsider of the group, and the second choice friend behind Savi. In the end, Savi and April do make up, which was clearly a huge weight off of Savi’s shoulders with everything she has going on. Yay for best friends speaking again. They need each other. Especially right now.
April continues to have issues with Miranda, who won’t stop calling her. Plus there’s the fact that Richard is peeved, because she stood him up twice. I gotta say, as much as I understand why April did what she did, I also believe Richard had a right to be upset. She never gave him any explanation the night of, and then when she finally does tell him what happened, she does so in an obscure, round about way. They sort of make up at Joss’ party, though he now has no interest in dating her until she sorts through her issues. At least they’re back on speaking terms. I guess.
So I thought Karen had finally gotten separation from Sam, but now Elizabeth comes to tell her that Sam has dropped out of college and moved into Karen and Tom’s love nest. Oh goody. Karen says that she can’t move on because she has nothing to move on to. Then comes Jacob. She gets all flirty with by him at the party, but as soon as the phone rings, she still chooses Sam. Okay, I get it. Sam was in the hospital. Emergency situation maybe gives her some slack, but she cannot honestly say that there is no one for her to move on to. Jacob seems like a nice guy. Plus he’s known her forever, so he knows a lot about her, and it seems like they have a lot in common. From the sound of it, Sam has moved on, Karen is the one who hasn’t. Although, I guess you can raise the question of “was Sam really being honest when he said he had called other people before calling her?” I don’t know. Maybe. I’m inclined to believe otherwise, but I guess that’s to be determined.
Savi’s life just got even more awkward because now she has to work late nights with Dom. At this point, it’s really just time to find a way to get away from Dom at work. Like seriously. I know Savi’s all about getting a promotion/making partner, but if she really cares about her relationship with Harry, she needs to make the sacrifice. Otherwise, things are just going to keep being awkward and messy, and unfortunately, running away to Byron Bay is not going to solve anything either, fun as a trip like that sounds. By the way, Harry’s shower scene. Can I just say, that is one gorgeous Australian man. Explain to me again why Savi cheated on him? And, big surprise, Savi’s now pregnant. *Insert dramatic noise cue here*
Overall, I liked this episode. It was better than the previous one in my opinion. Joss’ party was definitely the highlight, both because it had some of the episodes more comedic moments, and also in the way that it connected all the stories back together. The pregnancy reveal means there’s clearly more drama on the way. Dom’s? Harry’s? I already know, but won’t say here for people who haven’t seen past this episode. Now we’re getting into the meatier plot stuff, so I’m looking forward to reviewing the next few episodes.
Best Moment:
Joss’ party, particularly the Joss and Harry scene and the way Joss sticks it to Olivier. Good stuff.
Best Quote(s):
Woman: Get a longer skirt.
Joss: Get a taller child.
Savi: This is not the moment in my marriage where I want to be crawling into bed at 2am smelling of Dom’s cologne.
Karen: Why would you smell..?
Savi: It wafts. And lingers.
Harry: And how’s this supposed to work?
Joss: Show them a good time, at a soiree they wish they hosted, in a party house they wish they owned.
Harry: (Not convinced) Sounds like a solid plan.
(Later)
Harry: Nights still young. Buck up.
Joss: Oh, buck off.
