Mistresses – S1E4 – A Kiss Is Just A Kiss?
This is the best episode so far. Joss goes jogging with Alex, and gets a slightly strange compliment from Sally. I don’t know how I’d feel about someone thanking me for being a distraction for their girlfriend. Especially since in this case, I don’t get the feeling that Sally really cares about Alex’s feelings, she’s just happy they aren’t fighting. Clearly Joss feels the same way, because she wants to say something, much to the annoyance of Savi. And then she kisses Alex and freaks her out. Then later that night Alex and Sally break up and Alex turns to Joss for comfort. Hmmm…interesting. Given that Joss is, as I’ve mentioned before, an outsider from our core 4, and Alex doesn’t seem to have any other friends, I do think that the two of them are kind of great for each other.
Back to the Joss/Savi thing though. Why is Savi hiding everything from Joss? The whole snapping at her in the kitchen thing was kind of uncalled for. Joss is her sister after all, so shouldn’t she be one of the first people Savi shares this kind of stuff with? It doesn’t make any sense that she hasn’t, especially given the fact that we haven’t seen any reason why Joss shouldn’t be trusted. Maybe she’s occasionally a tad meddlesome, but she always has good intentions and does it out of love. Also, on a semi related note, Harry explicitly vocalizes my belief that Joss is the outsider of the group, and that April and Karen are technically Savi’s friends and not hers. She’s kind of the younger sibling that they tolerate. Speaking of Joss and Harry, I love that almost all of their interactions involve food, and usually end up with him cooking her something, usually to prevent her from ruining a meal she’s attempting to make, but occasionally as a nice gesture or, in the case of the party, a favor. It’s a small detail, and one that’s easy to glance over, but it kind of gives him this big brother-esque quality with her, which is sweet.
Karen finds Sam’s wallet in her car, and drops it off, and ends up spending even more time with him. The passion letter was nice and all, but seriously. Karen. Stay away from Sam. You should have left well before dinner. As for April, all I can say is, baby mama drama. Miranda’s getting all legal about this child support stuff. Oh snap. Then Scotty falls down, breaks his arm, and April covers the bill. Legally, I’m not sure that this was a smart move, but it does, at least initially, seem to soften Miranda’s attitude about the situation. Although, based on the last scene with her and actor dude, maybe it didn’t..
Lucy is one smart and sweet kid. The picture frame was such a sweet gesture. It really puts into perspective why April is so reluctant to say anything to her about Paul’s affair. How can she taint the image of Paul for her? And of course, the paternity test results the fake lawyer hands April, give Savi an idea about how to handle her own situation. Kind of clever way to weave that together writers. I have to give you that. Speaking of Savi, I somehow don’t find it believable that Dom would really believe, especially given their current situation, that she would actually purposely put her career in jeopardy to help him out. Ego trip? She doesn’t owe you anything buddy. Plus, it’s not like she got him knocked off the case intentionally. She was trying to make him the lead over herself. So stop being so cocky Dom.
Overall, I really like this episode. The cast has, at this point, really found a groove, and they actually have great chemistry together. The story is finally heating up and getting some meat as well. I guess the biggest questions we have to answer at this point are, who is Savi’s baby daddy, and what is Miranda’s scheme? I guess we’ll find out.
Best Moment:
Savi and April make up.
Best Quote(s):
April: So I’m quote the most stunning woman he’s ever met, but he’s terrified of my package.
Joss: Which, sadly, is not a euphemism.
April: There’s just as much of a chance it’s Harry’s. Probably even more.
Savi: Why more?
Karen: Because it would be sooo much better if it was Harry’s.
April: Exactly.
Nurse: Patients who make same day appointments sometimes have to wait.
Savi: Until the second coming?
